Description
The G&S Skip Frye Pintail model from 1967 is without question one of the best performing surfboards from the transitional era. The Frye pintail maintains its reputation for performance even by today’s standards. Besides being an excellent competitive surfer, Skip Frye was and is an amazing shaper and has consistently refined the "Frye Pintail" model throughout its development. This is one of the finest examples we’ve seen of a Gordon & Smith Skip Frye Pintail from 1967. Skip’s classic pintail outline is matched with his characteristic pinched rails and slightly rolled bottom to create a precision machine for maximum performance and edge control. Constructed with a Clark Foam blank featuring a high density green foam wedge stringer and W.A.V.E set fin box, the board was glossed and polished and includes the origin W.A.V.E. set fin. This board was sanded, re-glossed & polished. Great condition, almost mint : as we stated, we've never seen a finer 1967 Frye Pintail. This is it.

Provenance
Many of the best surfers and designers of the time worked for G&S along with Skip. Mike Hynson, Barry Kanaiaupuni and Butch Van Artsdalen to name three. Some of the most influential designs of the period came out of the G&S factory, and the Skip Frye Pintail model was one of their top selling boards along with the Mike Hynson Red Fin and The Stretch. Harry "Skip" Frye designed and shaped his first Skip Frye Model at G&S in 1966, the same year he placed first in the Ocean Beach Contest, second in the U.S. Pro Championships, and was rated ninth in the SURFER Magazine Surfer Poll. In 1967, Skip placed fifth in the AAA Oceanside Invitational and first in the Men's division at the Third Annual Laguna Masters Invitational. He was ranked second in the AAA final standings and was voted the second best male surfer in the SURFER Magazine Surfer Poll.
