A small logo says "WAVE RIDERS (patent) NO. 1971844 August 28 1934". This extraordinary collectable piece of antique surf gear is rare.

1940s Dale Velzy's Japanese Block Plane

No Reserve You are bidding on Dale Velzy's Japanese block plane gifted to him by George Downing in 1950. A wooden base holds the Japanese smithed blade. The words "TRADEMARK GOLDEN STAR MADE IN JAPAN" stamped into it. Below the finger/thumb hold Dale emblazoned his famous brand mark "VELZY". The block plane sits in a clear plexiglass box with a cloth accent base. This tool is an absolute museum piece, with tens of thousands of surfboards sculpted by The Hawk. It has been said the only thing Velzy's hands touched more than this block plane were the keys to his Hot Rod and the tips of his mustache.

No Reserve Donald Takayama on Velzy circa 2002: "Everything I am today, I owe to Velzy. He started me off in the surf industry and I never left. He gave me five bucks, a shirt and a board, and told me to go surfing and sell some boards for him. Dale made me the first professional. Yeah, it's all his fault." You are bidding on a Dale Velzy Wine Barrel Redwood Hotcurl shaped at 9' 11" with thirteen redwood and balsa sticks. Velzy's Japanese block plan no doubt carved the Hotcurl bottom design for easy turning (in the 1940s!). Has Dale's signature on the wood in deep pencil with the classic "VELZY" brand burned into the wood.

1997 Floyd Smith Gordon & Smith Refurbish

No Reserve Floyd Smith of iconic Gordon & Smith Surfboards lore refurbished this beautiful 10' balsa and redwood gun. The board features aa custom nose and tail block, a three stringer redwood "T" band layup with gorgeous blonde balsa. The bottom feaures an eye poping custom wood fin. The elephant gun outline is from the glory days of Waimea Bay circa 1959. Floyd Smith was given a decimated balsa surfboard and true to character he crafted something very special. On the stringer Floyd Smith wrote in pencil "REFURBISHED BY FLOYD SMITH 1996" he also signed the board in pencil on stringer Floyd Smith. This board is in excllent condition = a 9 out of 10.

2002 Greg Noll Spalted Alder Jose Angel Gun

No Reserve Of all the boards Greg Noll produced this Spalted Alder Jose Angel Gun is the most mesmerizing. Spalted Alder, Curly Koa, and Redwood make the recipe for this eye-catching 10' 5" Greg Noll Jose Angel Big Wave Gun. A complex glue up of seventeen sticks, and the difficulty of carving three very different woods challenged Greg. Even if you haven't heard of spalted wood, you might have seen it. Rather than a subtle coloring, some of its wood grains are as pronounced as if black or white ink has been worked into the swirls. In actuality, spalting—that coloration—is caused by funghi in a live tree, which will eventually lead to its decay and likely death when nature is left to its devices. Before you run the other direction: Woodworkers of all stripes have long prized spalted wood for its uniquely beautiful grain, and more recently, it's been adopted by furnishers of high design. This board also features the classic "Greg Noll Surf Boards and Film Productions" logo and below that the hand signed : "Shaped By Greg Noll 1997" signature. Small minor resin moisture fog on rail (see images). In excellent near mint condition 9.8 out of 10. The movement of the wood, the distinctive yarns and meltaways of the Alder, Koa and Redwood, engages. Gorgeous matching custom Greg Noll big wave gun fin glassed on. This one is a masterpiece.

1970 Dick Brewer / Buzzy Trent's Personal Elephant Gun

Increments of Fear! This board was built in 1970, the last board built for legendary Big Wave pioneer Buzzy Trent by Dick Brewer (before Buzzy had a hang gliding accident, in which he ran into a water tower and that caused so many injuries, that he had to give up surfing.)This is the final board Buzzy Trent surfed on. This blade was glassed by the legendary Boscoe Burns, father of Ronnie Burns and in the early 1970s Boscoe was considered the best glasser on the North Shore, before Jack Reeves came along. Check out the exquisite double pin lines on the rails and the very subtle blue tint in the bottom and lap. Highest performance fin for the era -- this board would have been a stiletto for the era. On the deck in foam is written "By Dick Brewer and Boscoe Burns for Buzzy".

1946 Pete Peterson Window Box Paddleboard

There's Holy Grail, and then there's Holy Grail spritzed with Holy Water. We have here the later. The 1946 Pete Peterson Window Box Paddleboard measuring 13' 4"with brass tacks, plywood /ribbed construction, and the unique window box inset. This board was built by Pete Peterson at the end of the Santa Monica Pier as noted by the tag on the board. Go down to the end of the pier, descend into Peterson's shop. Breathe in the tar and the wood and the seagull excrement, gaze at the marine salvage and the racks of metal and welding torches haphazardly organized -- hardcore watermen stuff. Pete Peterson's shop. Sadly destroyed during the El Nino year of 1982/83. This board is Smithsonian Museum quality built by a WWII veteran, a quiet waterman whose stare could bore through any BS presented.

8’0" Tom Parrish Lightning Bolt, circa 1977

Description

This is an incredible offering! Stemming from his relationship with Jeff Hakman, "Shaper to the Stars”" Tom Parrish had the top 25 top surfers in the world on his boards through the golden era of Lightning Bolt. Along with Gerry, Reno and BK, Parrish’s boards were the most in demand and expensive in the Lightning Bolt shop. In most event finals there were a couple of Parrishs, sometimes 4 out of the 6 finalists were on them. This board was originally glassed by Boscoe Burns, but the glass had aged due to sun and salt. Tom doesn’t usually want his boards restored but this one was not dinged, just weathered, so it did not need to be reshaped or patched. It was too nice of a board to leave in this condition so Tom asked his good friend and restoration specialist Randy Rarick to bring it back to life without changing the shape or losing thickness. Randy did his magic on it with a Magenta Red bottom and Tangerine deck, Black and White Shadow Bolts top and bottom, Black and White double Rail Bolt pin lines and a Parrish template glass on fin. Overall this board is like factory new and shows off the clean lines and quality that Tom Parrish is known for. An uncommon chance to get a real Bolt gun by a real Bolt shaper.

Has the original "Plastic Machine" artwork and on the transom McTavish wrote in pencil "SUNSET HONOLUA BAY DEC 1967" to commemorate his Hawaiian sessions on the original Plastic Machine. Bottom features the KEYO logo and a gorgeous Greenough influenced swooped and thinned out fin. 2013 Skip Frye 12' Eagle Glider

The twelve -foot Eagles are few and far between. Skip didn't make many. Skip is no longer taking orders for or shaping 12’ boards. If you had to count all the 12’ eagles in existence, there would be under 100 units in the world today. And a majority of those are in Skips private quiver. We have here twelve feet one inch of pure adulterated Skip Frye glide. Clear deck with t-band stringer, three Frye logos adorning the deck. Yellow bottom wraps onto the deck with a double blue tear drop pinline. In pencil on deck Skip wrote " HE'E NALU - STEVE - A-1676 " Bottom of board features the iconic hand drawn in pencil Skip Frye wings. Magni-frye-cient!! Some deck heel pressures. This board was ridden but kept in tight, respectful condition. Minor blems. See images for details. 9 out of 10.

Designed and hand shaped by Mike Hynson. A stiletto pintail as well as the hard down rail that the Hynson Rainbows are known for. Speed, baby! Perhaps the most unique feature is the carved out hole in the nose which is for adding lead weights to help you get down to the bottom as fierce trade winds fire up the wave face at Ma'alaea Harbor.
